Fiji just landed a major spotlight. National Geographic named it one of the top 25 places to visit in 2026 as part of its “Best of the World” list. This isn’t some basic shoutout either. The editors picked Fiji for delivering next-level travel experiences that are bold, joyful, and full of purpose.

The culture, the people, and their commitment to protecting what matters most make it a standout. National Geographic’s team saw something real in Fiji, and now the world is paying attention.

The South Pacific country has got a lot going for it, but one thing that caught Nat Geo’s eye is the BULA Reef. Built to help restore coral, this 52-foot-long structure spells out “BULA,” which means “life” in Fijian. It is the largest rescue reef on Earth, and it is changing how travelers think about tourism.

Close by, an underwater museum is growing coral on sunken bikes and golf carts. It is strange, surreal, and exactly the kind of thing you remember forever.

What to Do in Fiji?

Sure, the beaches are unreal. But Fiji doesn’t stop there. If you are into the ocean but want something unexpected, check out Cloud 9. It is a floating bar and restaurant in the middle of the sea. Think wood-fired pizza, cocktails, and tunes with nothing but water in every direction.

Nearby, the waves at Cloudbreak aren’t just for Instagram. The final showdown of the 2026 World Surf League will happen there. Whether you are riding the waves or just watching, it is pure adrenaline. You can also hop on a day cruise to Kuata Island, where you will find a new visitor center with pools, a restaurant, and a slice of Fijian culture.

If movies are more your vibe, head to Monuriki Island. That is where “Cast Away” was filmed. Unlike the movie, though, this place is far from deserted. It is a quiet sanctuary where you might spot the rare Fiji crested iguana. Just don’t expect volleyballs named Wilson.

And for something rooted in tradition, go for a Farm to Fork experience. The Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort lets you tour their sustainable farm, cook meals in a traditional underground oven, and sip Kava with locals. It is hands-on and delicious. Want more flavor? The Palm Court Restaurant is the spot for incredible Indian-Fijian curry.

When to Go and How to Get There Without Stress?

The best time to visit? May through October. This is Fiji’s dry season. That means sunny skies, clear water, and fewer mosquitoes. It also means more tourists, so book early if you want to lock in good rates and the best spots.

Most flights land in Nadi on Viti Levu, the main island. From there, it is easy to get around. Ferries from Port Denarau take you to the Yasawa and Mamanuca islands. These spots are postcard-perfect, with clear water, coral reefs, and resorts that know how to treat guests right.

Some are buzzing with activity, others feel untouched. Either way, you will want more than just a weekend.

Fiji’s balance of beauty and purpose is what makes it pop. It is not just a pretty place. It is a country building a future where tourism supports nature, not destroys it.
